The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Estate of Michael Jackson, Epic Records and Legacy Recordings announced today that Michael Jackson’s THRILLER is the first album in RIAA Gold & Platinum Program history to be certified 30X multi-Platinum for U.S. sales, continuing The King of Pop’s reign as the biggest selling artist of all time with worldwide sales of over 100 million for Thriller and 1 billion overall.

“RIAA has awarded Gold & Platinum records on behalf of the music business for nearly 60 years, but this is the first time an artist has crossed the 30X multi-Platinum plateau,” said Cary Sherman, Chairman & CEO, RIAA. “We are honored to celebrate the unique status of Thriller in Gold & Platinum history. What an exceptional achievement and testament to Thriller’s enduring spot in our hearts and musical history.”

Michael Jackson’s masterpiece Thriller, produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson, won a record setting 8 Grammys, more than any album ever, and has been earning awards and setting new standards of success since its release on November 30, 1982.

Thriller spent nearly 2 ½ years on the Billboard album chart and holds a modern day record of 37 weeks at No. 1. It was the first album in history to spend each of its first 80 weeks in the album chart’s Top 10, a feat only reached by one other album in the more than three decades since. During its 112th week on Billboard’s album chart, it became the first title ever to be certified RIAA 20X multi-Platinum (October 30, 1984). Worldwide, Thriller went to #1 in practically every country in the world, including the UK, France, Italy, Australia, Denmark, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and apartheid South Africa.

During his extraordinary career, Michael Jackson sold more than a billion records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and “Thriller” as the World’s Top-Selling Album of All Time. His artistry, choreography and music continue to inspire generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists and fans.

“It is crystal clear that Michael Jackson is simply the greatest, and biggest artist of all time,” says LA Reid, Chairman & CEO of Epic Records. “Not only are his charts hits and sales stats staggering, but his pure musicality was other-worldly. Thriller was groundbreaking and electrifying…it was perfection. I am extremely proud that Michael is the heart and soul of Epic Records and he will forever remain the one-and-only King of Pop.”

Final Crown Middle Letters

It appears that the once highly anticipated Deadly Combo album from Indiana MCs, Matty Moe and Michael Barber, is finally going to see the light of day. The album artwork has been released over the weekend, and a few speculative tracklists have also been seen on different urban blogs.

The Deadly Combo album has been talked about since 2012. Chicago Rap News listed the Deadly Combo album as one of the top 6 projects they were anticipating to drop in 2014 along with projects from Kanye West and Katie Got Bandz, and Dr. Dre’s artist, Jon Connor.

Both of the rappers are originally from Indiana, Barber is currently based out of Cocoa Beach, Florida. Matty Moe still lives in Indiana in Bloomington. Moe has been one of the most visible artists in the state opening for every major act that comes to the state, and steadily releasing new music.

Barber, who was signed to Death Row Records, is the highest selling hip hop artist out of the state of Indiana, and still considers Indiana his home.

The project has been highly anticipated and talked about for years with Moe jokingly calling the project, ‘the midwest’s version of Detox’. Detox is a reference to the Dr. Dre album that has been in the works for the last 15 years.

Barber handled all the production on the album. He states that playing he has recently learned to play the piano, and it has enhanced his production skills.

There is no release date set, but with the release of the album artwork it appears the date is near.

If you find a USB drive on the ground at an airport would you check to see what is on it?

There have been reports that spies have used this tactic to hack into important databases, and there have been reports of malicious viruses being placed on USB drives and destroying computers completely, and there is also the case of Nine Inch Nails frontman, Trent Reznor, leaving unreleased music on USB drives around the country in bathrooms just to see what happens. That being said, I guess a USB drive would be what Forrest Gump would talk about in 2015. (Life is like finding a USB drive, you never know what you’re gonna get…)

This time around it appears that the found USB device didn’t contain music by a legend, but it also didn’t contain a malicious, computer destroying virus. The contents according to TUNEIn sports radio host, Joey Sinatra, was one Big Ten’s team scouting report on the Indiana Hoosiers. The drive also contained some student work, info, and a thesis being written by what appears to be a postgrad student. It appears that the USB wasn’t a player’s jump drive, but rather an assistants or maybe student assistant coach.

I do not want to get into the owner to much as Joey did on his radio show, and he briefly had the contents available for sale on EBAY. (It has since been removed)

Now their was 3 different teams scouting report on this drive, but the other two are lowly mid-majors, and if I put out the teams, it would be way too easy for you Sherlock Holmes’s to find out what team/person owns this device. I don’t want that to happen.

The information written on the Indiana Hoosiers is both true and funny. The Hoosiers have one of the best offenses in the country, but their defense has been questionable at best.

James Blackmon Jr. might have the best/worst report in the entire portfolio.

“Blackmon plays defense similar to a scarecrow standing in one place with no lateral movement at all. Anyone he is guarding has a step advantage. Go around him with ease, but his offense won’t slack if he is getting scored on heavy like some players. Never leave him open his range is incredible. Force him to dribble, but watch his quick release. He rarely passes so if the ball gets to him, he’s going to shoot, force him to move, and try trapping as his ball handling is sub-par…”

Harsh words for a player who was a Big Ten All Freshman player last year.

This, however, does follow a year and a half of Hoosier fans watching Blackmon score at will, but only average 1 assist a game. His defense is so bad that ESPN announcer, Dan Dakich, a former assistant coach and interim head coach for the Hoosiers to say that Blackmon couldn’t “guard a chair” while calling the IU/Notre Dame game.

The report didn’t just crucify Blackmons defense, it also took aim at junior Troy Williams reporting, “when Williams gets the ball make him dribble. He is a turnover machine when handling the ball. An athletic Tasmania devil, make sure you block him out.”

Even more damaging than calling IUs best player a turnover machine is what it says about Hoosier senior Nick Zeisloft.

“If #2 is in the game get whoever he is guarding an ISO, clear the floor, and attack for the rebound…..attack, attack, whoever he is guarding has an advantage!”

Now the scouting report wasn’t just damaging and stating how bad the Hoosiers play defense, it did include things on how Troy Williams attacks the rim, how senior pg Yogi Ferrell can stop and shoot on a dime. It also said that Yogi, ‘dribbles too much,’ which is like saying a midget is short. Common sense if you have seen any Indiana basketball game in the last 4 years.

The more damaging and again, funny, info in the report was on Coach Tom Crean’s defensive and offensive tactics.(or lack of)

“Patience is the key on offense. If #1 (Blackmon) or #2 (Zeisloft) isn’t in the game, look for back cuts, and if Coach Crean calls in any type set change, there will be a few seconds of breakdown in their defense as they try to move from either man to man to zone or vice versa. One pass and go has proven to score over 80% of the time.”

The report continued on the offensive end for the Hoosiers, “…rarely do you see back screens or back cuts, the offense is again, a weave and spacing, they only agenda is to drive and kick for a 3. Sag but watch the shooters.”

Once we get confirmation from Joey Sinatra, we will upload the entire report or link to the entire report.

The info isn’t as damaging being released to the team as it might be to the Hoosiers and Coach Tom Crean. It shows a lot that another coach or scout in the Big Ten would have a report that is pretty much stating, “if Crean calls a play, it won’t work, get ready to score,” or something similar.

The info on going exactly at 1 player and saying he can’t guard anybody is hard to believe, and also something I haven’t seen before. If it is really that simple, it might be a long year for the Hoosiers who start Big Ten play on December 30th vs Rutgers.

This also might show why Coach Tom Crean is on the hot seat, but outside of Indiana that isn’t for sure yet.

Michael Bentley is a publicist, executive producer, A&R, entrepreneur, and now he is adding another trade to his name as he prepares to release his first book, Bread & Circuses.

Bread and Circuses is an old latin term from used by a Roman writer to deplore the declining heroism of Romans after the Roman Republic ceased to exist and the Roman Empire began: “Two things only the people anxiously desire — bread and circuses.” The government kept the Roman populace happy by distributing free food and staging huge spectacles.

The book will cover a plethora of different projects Bentley has worked on or covered in his 15 years inside the entertainment industry including Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, successful and unsuccessful publicity stunts in the music industry.

It will also cover his reaction and involvement to the documentary, Lost for Life, including his letter to Shannon Adamick involving her son who is in prison for life for murdering a 16 year old schoolmate. Controversial subjects such as gun control, the using of the N word, and other topics including how social media is causing narcissistic children, the trophy generations, and other spectacles in society caused by and from publicity.

“It’s a book that covers why certain spectacles happen the way they do. There is always a wizard of oz behind the curtain, but the theories have gotten way out of hand. Illuminati is the trending buzz word, but it isn’t accurate. There is all this fog and smoke, and this book is the windex and napkin.”  Michael Bentley was quoted on Charlotte WGNC Radio about his upcoming book.

Bread and Circuses is due out in the summer of 2016 for more info visit Michael Bentley Live

Staten Island Brothers Anthony and Harvey Christian were recently convicted of running a drug empire for two decades and murdering rival drug dealer Jerome Estella in 1999. Their trial is in the sentencing stage now, and their lawyer Michael Gold just dropped a bit of a bombshell.

He presented evidence that the FBI suspected Wu-Tang members RZA and Raekwon of ordering the death of Estella and also Corey Brooker — who was murdered soon after, and whose case remains unsolved.

The FBI’s theory was that Estella had robbed RZA’s brother and that Brooker had robbed Raekwon’s cousin.  So RZA put out a $30,000 hit on both men.

“These reports seem to suggest someone else was liable for those murders. I’m not suggesting that Wu-Tang committed these crimes. The FBI did,” Gold told the Staten Island Advance. “What I’m trying to ascertain is their stated belief in an official file that Wu-Tang ordered this homicide.”

In other words, Gold is trying to get his clients off because Wu-Tang may be the real culprit.

The prosecution in the case against the Christians disagree. They state that Gold had access to the FBI’s Wu-Tang files during the trial, and should have presented the evidence then. They also argue that Estella and Brooker being thieves as well as drug dealers would have brought more police heat into the Christians’ neighborhood, and thus would have just increased the Christians motive for knocking them off.

Charges were obviously never filed against RZA or Raekwon, and so far neither has commented on the new/old allegations against them.
